January Full Moon: The Great Mother Within.

Painting by Ayami Kojima

Painting ‘Persephone’ by Ayami Kojima

About a week into a new Venus cycle and the divine feminine signature is gaining momentum.

Today’s Full Moon is at 27º Cancer- the sign of the Mother- is in opposition to Pluto at 26º Capricorn, sign of the Father. Right next to Pluto is Juno at 24º Capricorn; Juno in her higher aspect represent the divine consort, one half of the sacred marriage, while in her lower polarity expresses the shadow side of relationship where issues of power and manipulation may play out.

Particularly in her conjunction with Pluto this full moon, relationship power dynamics may come to the fore in order to be acknowledged and transformed. If you are in relationship, it might be a good time to check that the power structures of your relationship are balanced and that both you and your partner are giving and receiving in equal measure.

It could also be a time to recognize that you are now ready for something new in relationship, particularly a move into sacred union as many of us are being called to. Whether that is possible in your current relationship or not depends on the awareness willingness of your partner, and as with many things on timing.

Venus is still in her retrograde phase emphasizing the theme of relationship separations and returns… this is highlighted with a Pluto Juno conjunction.

With Moon opposite Pluto and Juno there may be some relationship drama or turmoil to contend with. If you are feeling ready for a new level of relationship however this may now feel tiresome and old hat to you. It is up to you how much you wish to participate in emotional drama.

Exactly conjunct the north node at 28º Taurus is Ceres, representing the Great Mother, nurturing, unconditional love, self-worth, attachment issues, rejection, loss and at the occult level, the blood mysteries, death/rebirth, and transformation. Next to the north node she is highlighting our collective needs and attitudes to this regard. How we were personally mothered, and how we mother (including self-care), what we need to feel loved and nurtured and how we can do this for others is under review as the north node, our collective destiny, moves through the fixed earth sign of Taurus under the rulership of harmony focused Venus.

Less than 2 degrees away from the lunar north node and Ceres, is the maiden daughter, turned Queen of the Underworld, Persephone. This Mother Daughter conjunction speaks to the esoteric mysteries of Eleusis where a descent to the underworld in the house of Hades facilitates an initiatory confrontation with death and offers the promise of renewal. In modern psychological speak, facing and integrating our shadow… and maybe freeing ourselves from the shackles of a spiritually ruptured society.

The Mother Daughter merging at the point of the lunar node, for me, highlights a need for collective surrender and willingness to let go of all that we are holding onto through attachment, emotional insecurity, unresolved trauma patterns from being raised in a society where in many cases the mother principle has been weakened. Clutching to old patterns and wounding prevents breakthrough to a higher level of self hood where the invitation is to merge with the Great Mother within as well as without. In the gnostic teachings it is said that the ‘Kingdom of God is within’, and so it is that the (wild) Garden of the Mother is also an inner condition.

Learning to mother ourselves and to trust the universal Mother has been a feature of our time. In the myth of Persephone, the maiden’s descent is an inevitable if painful necessity on the path of individuation- life and death, Eros, and Thanatos, dark and light must finally co-exist as fertile ground for the sacred marriage to take root.

Remarkably these sacred feminine essences, involving the nodal axis of collective karma, are creating what is known as a ‘Mystic Rectangle’ at today’s full moon.

A mystic rectangle is comprised of two oppositions (Moon opposes Pluto and Juno, and north node, Persephone, Ceres, opposes the south node; two sextiles, north node, Persephone, Ceres sextile the Moon, and Pluto, Juno sextile the south node; and two trines, Moon trine south node, and north node, Persephone, Ceres trine Pluto Juno. This Mystic Rectangle is within a tight 2-degree orb.

If this all seems a bit baffling to non-astrologers, we can take comfort in the words of Dane Rudhyar who says that a Mystic Rectangle denotes ‘Practical Mysticism’ where oppositions that would normally be challenging are alleviated and made smoother by the sextiles and trines.

In short, the above-mentioned dynamics – and let’s face it some of us have been struggling with these issues for a long time -are blessed with a divine opportunity to be worked through much easier and quicker than we have previously believed.

These are super accelerated times and just by bringing our awareness to the issues, having faith in our divine nature, our connection with the planets and asteroids (or gods), and a willingness to raise our vibration as we head into a new age, can trigger profound change.

To recap-

This full moon is shining a potent light on a transforming feminine consciousness particularly as it relates to:

~Partnership/ Sacred Partnership

~Nurturing of Self and Others

~Power balance within relationships

~Attachment issues

~Unresolved emotional mother wound issues

~ Relationship with the Mother god within

~Relationship with the Mother god without

~Our willingness or lack of it to surrender to the depths

~Our collective past in terms of the feminine principle

~Where we are collectively headed in relation to the divine feminine principle

Mythically the essence of Demeter (Ceres) and Persephone is a story of death and renewal- what is within us that can now be metabolised and alchemised into new life (consciousness).

Juno brings to the surface our relationship patterns, hope, desires, and dynamics that will elevate us into our highest potential of sacred union. In doing so Juno will first express any unresolved shadow issues particularly of a power-based theme in her conjunction with Pluto. Are we ready to let go of the drama and fully open to love?

And finally, while it is not included in the mystic rectangle, Vesta is conjunct Pholus in the early degrees of Capricorn offering an opportunity to address sexuality, the presence or absence of sacredness within our sexual relating and reflecting on how our sexual attitudes, behaviours, repressions, or neurosis may have been influenced by our ancestral lineage.

It is a potent time to let a lot of ancestral karma fall way, not through bypassing or rejection but with love and compassion (Ceres) and staking claim to our soul’s unique calling. It is a powerful time to rise above all that has previously defined us.

Reclaiming Medusa’s Head… so she can speak.

Medusa

When the moon reached her fullness at 27° Taurus 14’, on 19th November, she made a conjunction to the fixed star Algol Beta Persei at 26° Taurus 10’ (Algol has a 2° orb). Located in the Medusa’s head of the Perseus constellation, Algol is thought to be one of the most unfortunate stars in the heavens and is widely associated with violence. William Lily, the 17th century Astrologer considered any planet within a 5° orb of Algol to be afflicted.

The Arabic name for Algol is Al Ghoul which means demon or evil spirit and is associated with decapitation which is connected to the myth of Medusa whose head is slain and severed by Perseus.

Algol also has the same root as alcohol… losing one’s head is a consequence of consuming too much alcohol.

Today asteroid Medusa is at 10° Scorpio 10’ in an opposition with Uranus at 12° 0’ Taurus. Dark Moon Lilith- the dark side of the Moon- is at 1 Gemini 39’, in an almost exact conjunction with the north node of the moon at 1° Gemini 30’.

The Dark Goddess speaks and guides us forward in our collective destiny.

Considered a female demon who was married to the devil, the Arabs believed Algol to be the most malefic star of all. The late medieval and early modern church accused women who were tried and tortured for witchcraft to be associates of the devil. Lilith, the first wife of Adam who refused to be submissive, was thought to cavort with wild demons on the shores of the Red Sea, herself becoming a wind demon who disempowered men with her evil seductions. In Talmudic Law, Algol is connected with Lilith

What begins to emerge through this cross-cultural thread is the story of patriarchal fear of feminine power.

Algol/Lilith/Medusa embodies everything that is feared in the feminine from causing the loss of reason in men, pacts with the devil, unbridled sexuality, refusal to comply with patriarchal control, seduction, rage, and the power to summon spirits. It is only Lilith who knows the ineffable name of God, and it is Lilith who returns to the garden as a serpent to initiate Eve in the knowledge of good and evil.

What emerges is that these female archetypes are demonised, feared and rejected because they are powerful. More powerful than any man-made laws designed to silence and control, more powerful than the gilded cage of patriarchy, and more powerful than reason and intellect. Powerful because they are connected to a primordial authority that is driven by Mother nature and the innate pulse of life that spirals in cycles of renewal including death, darkness, decay, and destruction – a different kind of power from the mind split from body (the so-called enlightened mind) which attempts to win mastery over nature.

Is that not what is happening now even more tenaciously than ever before, the attempted control of the wild, organic, and unpredictable elements of nature including human nature.

Feminine power has been subverted and demonised for hundreds if not thousands of years but don’t be fooled that this is a thing of the past or the dark ages, fear of the feminine is alive and kicking today so much so that the controllers have upped the ante to an alarming degree.

As I was writing this post, I did a quick internet search on the connection between Algol and Lilith, the first page of entries was almost entirely linked to an MLF porn star whose “stage name” is Lilith Algol. This is sadly typical of how the names of the goddess have been subverted and demonised in popular culture and even politics… I am thinking of Isis- the Islamic state military organization. Type “Medusa” into the search bar and you’ll be sure to find an array of manga type, cartoonish depictions of femme fatales, blood smeared or absurdly sexualised as  “Vagina Dentata” whores ready to emasculate and devour any helpless man who crosses her path.

There are a thousand ways to discredit the feminine: from disallowing the term “breast feeding” and changing it to “chest feeding” in order to include trans women; menstrual suppression; economic dependency; slut shaming; inciting fear of violence (real or imagined); ridicule, to name a few. On this point, I must say as a “Karen,” that the stereotyping of women who have the balls to speak out  as “difficult,” is just one of the many ways that the conditioned social order collude with this programming.

In reality the feared feminine is a fully embodied, spirit connected, intelligent mind with a soul guided purpose, refusing to be enslaved or broken by those who live in fear of losing their man-u-factured and illusionary control.

Was the full moon eclipse in Taurus a malefic moon? No, I don’t think it was. What may be closer to the truth is that the Dark Goddess is active and potent specifically at this time of year on account of  various cosmic factors, while on the collective level of humanity’s awakening the powerful feminine is rising in women and men who are waking up to the truth of covert manipulation eating away at our sacred core. That is the real “ghoul,” the  “Al-khul” which means “body eating spirit.”

No other myth shape shifts quite like the myth of Medusa; the popular interpretation often centres around the serpent headed gorgon, monstrous to be behold, petrifying men in her stony eyed stare. Victory from her wrath is won by the solar hero Perseus who aided by the gods finally decapitates Medusa delivering her head to Athena, the first fully formed daughter of patriarchy birthed from the head of Zeus.

Medusa is not entirely satisfied with this version of her story… there is more to it. She is calling to us now, from the dark dank cave on the Western fringes of the world somewhere between sleep and death. She comes to us in dreams, rises in the blood that boils when we are confronted with the injustices of the world, in the long slow gaze at patriarchy that sees through the veils of deception. Medusa’s eye is the unblinking, all-seeing eye, the eye that sees beyond the illusions of the material world and into the spirit of things, into things as they really are.

Medusa is leaving the cave and returning to the Temple.

One of Medusa’s sacred roles is as Protectress of the Serpent Mysteries, and the Golden Apples in the Garden of Hesperides.

Algol, located in the Medusa’s head and carried by Perseus has meaning beyond the monstrous gorgon and her ill fated ways, it represents feminine passion. Algol raises questions about how we express our feminine passion, do we ferment and rage in a state of victimhood played like puppets of the patriarchy responding with unhealed trauma to every ruse and manipulation designed to keep us in fear, or do we rise in power, reclaim our severed head, and reconnect our embodied nature guided wisdom and spirit led soul with a strong undivided and unconditioned mind.

Do we fear the serpent or do we embrace her; the serpent has the power to heal and the power to destroy.

It’s time to reclaim Medusa’s head… so she can speak.

The Weavers of Fate

The Pleides

The current lunar cycle began at 12 degrees Scorpio and reached fullness at 27 degrees of Taurus. This configuration precedes a shift in the moon’s nodal axis from Sagittarius/Gemini to Scorpio/Taurus occurring on December 23rd, 2022 and lasting until July 2023.

In Sagittarius/Gemini, the nodal axis highlighted issues around thinking and action; as the nodes cross into Scorpio/Taurus, matters concerning proper use of resources (including our own energy system) will be brought into focus becoming clearer as information rises from the Scorpio depths revealing what has previously been unconscious with regards to the world of spirit infused matter.

We are being called to look beyond the mechanistic dualism of a world where spirit and matter are autonomous and mutually exclusive.

It will become less possible to live in a material world that is disconnected from the grid of energy and life pulse as it connects us humans with everything in the universe… unless of course human beings are artificially modified, and less organic so that this natural truth is distorted.

Questions about how humans are affected on the physical plane have dominated recent discussion regarding how humans are affected- or not- by bio-medical intervention. Nowhere on mainstream channels, and rarely elsewhere, does the discussion extend to how we may be affected on the level of spirit and soul by chemical substances injected into our bodies… chemicals also have a spirit, all matter does.

With the north node moving into Taurus on 23 December just a few days after Venus goes retrograde, it will no longer be viable to view the physical plane as dead matter, nor consider that actions and thoughts can exist as isolated entities disenfranchised from a wider energetic matrix.

South node in Pluto ruled Scorpio will assist us in exposing deeper dynamics at play assessing our part in the unfolding of humanity’s destiny including and especially how this relates to the physical dimensions of existence.

Prominent in the constellation of Taurus is the star cluster the Pleiades known, among other epithets, as the Seven Sisters. Across many cultures and throughout time, the Pleaides with only a few exceptions, are considered feminine. The Tuareg Berbers of the northern Sahara call the Pleiades Cat iheḍ (pronounced: shat ihed) (or -ahăḍ) meaning “daughters of the night”. While the Pawnee Indians considered the star cluster a sign of unity from which the people could learn about social harmony, as well as harmony and connection with all living things.

From the bible to the Talmud, the Kabbalah, and the Rig Veda; from Egypt to the Aboriginal peoples of Australia; and from Theosophy to ancient goddess worship, the Pleaides have captured the human imagination offering guidance and messages from a divine feminine consciousness.

Helena Blavatsky, co-founder of the Theosophical Society has much to say about the role of the Pleaides believing that the Seven Sisters have a key role in the karma of nations and individuals and therefore in the unfolding destiny of humanity.

The mythology and cosmology surrounding this open star cluster some 444.2 light years from Earth is a rich treasure chest twinkling through space and weaving many jewels into our human-cosmic-consciousness story.

According to Bernadette Brady the Pleiades were also a major Calendar point marking the beginning and ending of a season. In Babylon, the heliacal rising of the Pleiades heralded the beginning of the new year, and the Celts used the acronychal rising to mark the month of mourning for dead friends- Samhain.

For the Celts, the Pleaides were also linked to the Fates; women were forbidden to sew on the days when the stars were either heliacal or acronychal rising (first star to rise in the east after sunset) in case they broke their thread and consequently humanity’s thread of life.

Could it be that the Pleaides are linked to a Gaia- Sophianic consciousness offering humanity an important message at this time? Our future is in danger of morphing into a transhumanist artificial matrix in which the energetic (and physical) biospheres are eroded and replaced with inorganic intelligence… tearing us from the womb of the Mother in one giant collective caesarean section.

The last new moon in Scorpio preceding the lunar eclipse in Taurus, for me, kick started a process which I feel will affect us for the next few years, bringing us into more alignment with our individual and collective soul’s destiny and true identity- an upgrade if you will but not of the artificial kind. Of course, we get to choose… a classic red pill, blue pill moment. These decisions are being made in each of us at the level of soul and each must choose his or her path.

We are weaving our fate in every moment, in every decision, and in every thought. To keep on participating in humanity’s future at a time when we are being asked- if not forced -to surrender our autonomy and natural truth to an artificial agenda intent on stripping humanity of all that keeps us embedded in the physical/spiritual eco system of our planet and beyond, is the invitation of our time.

We are the Weavers of Fate.

Solar Eclipse: Rekindle Your Vital Force.

Leighton,_Frederic_-_Invocation

Invocation by Frederic Leighton

What if I told you that the New Moon solar eclipse happening this Thursday, 10th June is an opportunity for personal and collective soul retrieval? That at the time of a New Moon solar eclipse, when the Sun -our conscious mind- is obscured, we have access to forces of the past that lay buried in the unconscious as psychic complexes and that these forces or powers may be seen, realised, and integrated. This may facilitate a release from past binds or an assimilation of old, previously forgotten gifts, knowledge, skills, and awareness. This concept is articulated by Dane Rudhyar and later Demetra George; Rudhyar goes on to say that whether the Sun is conjunct the north or south node also bears upon the meaning and potential of the eclipse.

In the case of Thursday’s solar eclipse, the Sun is conjunct the north node which symbolizes future possibilities of growth on the basis of what has already been accomplished in the past. The eclipse can awaken new illumination about the future and activate new ways to do things both individually and collectively. When the Sun is conjunct the north node, we are called upon to face the necessity of manifesting new ways to move into our future. Hence eclipses often correspond to stress, crisis and change in our lives. During eclipse season we are involved with the journey of the individual soul and the World Soul.

Eclipses represent major tests that are presented to us in those areas of the chart where the eclipse falls. The position of the Sun and Moon this eclipse is 19 Gemini, 47’. The Sabian symbol which can reveal more about the unfolding energy is-

PHASE 80 (GEMINI 20°): A MODERN CAFETERIA DISPLAYS AN ABUNDANCE OF FOOD, PRODUCTS OF VARIOUS REGIONS.

KEYNOTE: The assimilation of multifarious knowledge through the synthesizing power of the mind.

From the One, the Many arise in due time. The Original Source gives birth to the mountain stream which, gathering to itself the down-flow of rain water, becomes the large river around which cities are built. These in turn pollute the river on its way to the vast ocean. This modern symbol expresses the fact that man, now at the close of a cultural cycle, is able to gather foodstuffs – mental as well as physical – from many regions of the globe. His diet has acquired a planet-wide foundation; history tells us that the search for salt and spices, then for commodities rare in local regions, provided the impetus for global trade and thus eventually for a planetary consciousness. The results may be satiety and indigestion, and mental confusion caused by lack of discrimination.

This is the last symbol of the sixteenth five-fold sequence. As is most often the case such a fifth stage implies a certain kind of synthesis or at least a preparation which leads to a new level. The keynote here is indeed ASSIMILATION; the negative potentiality of the symbol is WASTE.

“Mental confusion caused by lack and discrimination” and a need to either assimilate or eliminate… As we fully enter the information age we are called to exercise our power of discrimination and discernment more keenly… haven’t we become painfully aware of this over the past eighteen months and more?

When we consider our soul’s journey through lifetimes, we may also wonder what extraneous “stuff” we have picked up along the way that has obscured our pure soul essence. Through a process of pollution and contamination our own sacred flame may have diminished and even extinguished. There is also the ancestral field to consider… to what extent is our soul journey bound with ancestral legacies? Vesta inconjunct Chiron on the solar eclipse may reveal information to this end if we are prepared to look.

Keeper of the Sacred Flame, Vesta, represents the flaming torch of illumination that we carry from life time to life time. This light is encoded within our unique vibrational tone, our soul’s essence, and keeps the Home fires burning. No matter how far we stray from our essential self Vesta holds the torch for our return. Like a lighthouse flashing into the dark oceans of the unconscious, She calls to us… and we call back.

On the Full Moon lunar eclipse on 26th May, Vesta was in a square aspect with the Sun and Moon and an exact square with the lunar nodes on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. As eclipse season continues with the New Moon solar eclipse, Vesta is still squaring the Sun, Moon, and lunar nodes. The Gemini/Sagittarius axis has been prominent this last year as the north node has been retrograding through Gemini and the south node retrograding through Sagittarius. The moon’s nodal axis -or the head and tail of the dragon as it known- is involved with the soul’s journey through lifetimes. Loosely speaking the south node tells of where we have been, lessons learned, experiences gained, and the things we have mastered. The north node pulls us forward into the new for the purpose of our soul’s growth. Closer to the truth is that we continually move on that continuum weaving past and present towards wholeness and integration. Whenever a planet or other celestial body forms an aspect pattern with the lunar nodes, the energy or vibration of that body is highlighted and included in the experience, or Kairos – the uniquely timely, the spontaneous, the radically particular.

Vesta is our commitment and devotion to our sacred calling…  for me personally I have been strongly aware of Vesta’s influence as for the past week or so Jupiter has been conjunct my natal Vesta at 1 Pisces in the 8th house… though her presence is very much a collective event on more levels than I’d initially realised when considering this blog.

As Vesta has been in Virgo for some time, Jupiter’s entry into Pisces highlights Vesta-type concerns as they relate to the Pisces/Virgo axis… surrender to the transcendent flow and the material containers needed to stay rooted in the physical world… or how bring in and anchor spirit in the material realm. Many Astrologers believe that Virgo- 6th house- is under the rulership of Vesta.

Vesta’s hearth kindles a desire for Home, exposes the painful absence and dislocation from it, and inspires joy when we are aligned to it… symbolically at Home with ourselves at the deepest most essential level. Vesta is also involved with the Earth as our collective Home… our Earth Heart. Essentially a spiritualised feminine energy that seeks to take root in the physical world of matter, when inspired by Vesta we are conduits of spirit capable of manifesting and expressing spirit in and through the physical container of our body. It is also where we find and create other containers to express and ground spirit. Each of us are coded to facilitate unique spiritual qualities and anchor them here on Earth. It may be that we have carried our particular Vesta torch or sacred flame through lifetimes igniting the same energetic vibration time and time again. It is what is ours to do and by doing it we are brought more fully into our essential truth. By expressing our unique vibration in this way we  participate in our collective awakening and Homecoming.

For all the above reasons, I feel Vesta features strongly throughout this eclipse season however there’s more…

As the brightest asteroid Vesta is occasionally visible to us with the naked eye… now is one of those rare times!  Between 5th -22nd June, Vesta may be visible in our night sky.

On 19th June Vesta will come within 170.6 million kilometres of Earth which is the closest it has been for two decades and is the closest it will be until 2040.

To find out more about how to spot Vesta go here-

https://skyandtelescope.org/observing/vesta-2018-opposition/

That Vesta is visible to us suggests that we have a direct link to this spiritual dimension and can make it conscious.

And, as these things go, the Vestalia was a Roman religious festival to honour Vesta and the Sacred Flame which took place over several days from June 7th– 15th. During this time women were allowed to enter the inner sanctum of Vesta and make offerings to Her, approaching Her alter barefoot. No official business was conducted in Rome during this week and on the last day the entire city was purified.

According to Ovid, the shrine of Vesta was always a circular building to emulate the earth. Vesta signified the life force of the earth; its ‘vital force’ from which she took her name and which her sacred flame represented.

In Roman mythology, Vesta was the third daughter of the god Saturnus. Unlike her sisters Juno and Ceres, she did not marry but remained a virgin although in this context it is the archaic meaning of the word virgin- whole unto herself.

I have written a lot over the years about Vesta, the Vestal Virgins, and the Vestas as sacred sexual priestesses in my blog www.gnosticwoman.com

To find these blogs simply type “Vesta” into the search bar.

To read more about the Vestalia and the power of Vesta this is an interesting blog-

Somewhere I feel in all of us there is a little flame that burns with the essence of our unique soul code, a distinctive note that only we can add to the collective symphony. Maybe we are fully aware of our flame as a bright phosphorus light illuminating our life and leading us forward toward our sacred calling. Alternatively it may be that the light comes and goes brightening and diminishing depending on how obscured it becomes by life’s events and experiences that take us away from ourselves. It can happen that we forget to tend the flame and for a while and it appears to diminish, even extinguish, but it is always there waiting for us to reignite it and remember who we are and why we are here.

The Full Moon eclipse on Thursday is an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to our sacred commitments. Even if we have strayed far away from home and our sacred flame is faint or has gone out, we can reset our intention and relight our candle by recommitting to what we know in our heart to be our true calling.

There is a mighty asteroid Goddess influence this New Moon with Vesta at 15 Virgo, 33’ in a trine with Uranus (12 Taurus, 54’) and Ceres (12 Taurus, 41’). On an esoteric level, Ceres is involved with the Eleusinian Mysteries, guiding initiates through a death rites of passage, as well as the Blood Mysteries.

At the same time Pallas (24 Pisces, 56’) conjunct Neptune at (23 Pisces, 08’).

But this is for another blog… or two.

If you would like an astro shamanic reading to explore where Vesta sits in your natal chart by sign, house, and aspect and to explore your sacred calling, I am available for online sessions.

To finish this piece I’d like to quote an extract from T.S. Eliot’s “Little Gidding”, as I feel it captures something of this solar eclipse-

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, remembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.
