On 16 February, the Moon will be full at 27 ° Leo, opposite the Sun at 27 ° Aquarius. Illuminated by the Sun this is a fiery moon, a Queenly moon, reflecting the light of Aquarian consciousness from the throne of the heart. A Leo moon indicates a solar feminine quality, a signature that is also reflected in Venus’ blazing glory as Morning star.

While the dance of divine feminine and divine masculine is highlighted in the opposition of the luminaries- Sun & Moon- cosmic lovers, Venus & Mars tango in an exact conjunction at 16 ° Capricorn. Magnetic Venus, core essence of the feminine nature in her manifest form awakens the impulse to regenerative life-force, activating Mars’ libido and vitality… the Goddess of Love is being penetrated by her cosmic consort. The union takes place at 16 ° Capricorn, sanctioned by Earth bound Law Keeper and Lord of Karma, Saturn; vows made by the union of masculine and feminine at this time have staying power and holds the potential to actualize on the material plane.

This is the hieros gamos- the sacred marriage made manifest through masculine and feminine polarity and union.

At the point of the Moon’s fullness asteroid Magdalena is conjunct the Galactic Center at 26 ° Sagittarius. Mary Magdalene, in whom the hieros gamos takes place archetypally within her own essence and in sacred union with Christ, emanates higher vibrational information from Source to the human sphere. For the Maya, the Galactic Center was the supreme godhead and ultimate creator which they named “Hunab Ku;” for them it was a portal to other galaxies and the consciousness that organizes all matter from a whirling disk into stars, planets, and solar systems. Burst of energy from the Galactic Centre- the cosmic womb- is the portal through which the creator orchestrates the unfolding of our galaxy.

Mary Magdalene Priestess and Keeper of the Womb Mysteries embodies the feminine Christ; She holds within Her being dark and light; She anoints Yeshua and resurrects the human soul. Through sacred feminine gnosis- now mostly lost and suppressed along with other gnostic teachings- Magdalene offers liberation and awakening into our divine nature; she imparts the lost teachings and points to where they may be found… in sacred union within and in sacred union with the beloved. If Christ is pointing to God, Magdalene is pointing to God within, to Sophia, She who consciously descends into physical matter existing as indwelling light.

When Venus’ husband Hephaestus discovered her love affair with Mars, he sets out to shame the couple by ensnaring them in an invisible bronze net of chains, their passion and nudity exposed for all the gods to witness. The marriage between Venus and Hephaestus (Vulcan) however was part of a bargain made by Zeus who promised Hephaestus the hand of Venus/Aphrodite for the release of his consort, Hera when she became trapped by Hephaestus- her own son- on a golden throne… a classic Möbius loop of the ongoing battle of the sexes; a thread that weaves through fairy tales, myths, and stories, manifesting as world history through a distorted mythologem.

The stealing of, entrapment, and raping of the feminine is a staple theme in Greek drama and is reflected through the archetypal distortions and overlays of patriarchy. Use and abuse of feminine energy degraded and desacralized as chattel in systems of power that have commodified and attempted to control the soul has become an intrapsychic reality. Now however the conditions are ripe to dismantle these webs.

At this time, we are being given an opportunity to do things differently; Venus and Mars are magnetic lovers, they are irresistible to one another, beyond any socially approved contract or ‘civil engineering’, they embody the universal law of attraction, the magnetic reproductive force of the feminine penetrated by the generative masculine, who in turn is ‘anointed’ by the feminine. Mary Magdalene and Yeshua symbolically embody the bridal mysteries- She with gnosis of Herself as divine feminine consort in sacred union with the divine masculine, and He in holy service to Her accepting that His resurrection happens through Her.

Magdalena on the Galactic centre… Venus and Mars conjunction… if you believe that we exist in a vibratory universe, that emanations from the planets and other celestial bodies interact with our own soul essence which in itself is a frequency, a cell in the vibrational cosmos, this full moon is an invitation to illuminate and let go of limiting beliefs and patterns constructed according to a world view where divine masculine, and divine feminine have been distorted and degraded.

This is a moment of freedom.

Magdalene stands as the doorway to a higher consciousness beckoning us to enter Her Temple of the Heart.

Also involved in the full moon configuration are the lunar nodes forming a Grand Cross- Sun at 27° Aquarius; Moon at 27° Leo; North Node at 27° Taurus; South Node at 27° Scorpio… a Grand opportunity to reset our collective destiny.

How can we work with this?

Move away from the drama stories: On the lower polarity Mars and Venus act out the battle of the sexes- attraction and repulsion; desire and rejection; jealousy and revenge; fear and manipulation; primal instincts expressed without measure, consequence, or consciousness resulting in shame, infidelity, and transgressions of all sorts.

On the higher polarity- in the Magdalene/Christ vibration- union is lifted from unconscious wounding and destructive patterns to conscious choosing and heart centred relationships where men and women create an alembic of transformation, a sacred geometry of resurrection, not only for themselves, but as a Christ light in the world.

The sabian symbol for the Mars/Venus conjunction is (CAPRICORN 17°): A REPRESSED WOMAN FINDS A PSYCHOLOGICAL RELEASE IN NUDISM.

KEYNOTE: The escape from bondage to social inhibitions and a reliance upon the wisdom of the body.

This I suggest is the gnosis of Mary Magdalene- High priestess; once we accept that we are the Temple, that our bodies are a bio- mystical experience of inner alchemy, the light of that truth shines so powerfully that any man-made laws and rules that impede sacred connection to Source dies in the dust of its own soulless sway. Likewise, connections where disrespect, dishonour, absence of love, abuse or any other low vibrational experience cannot thrive in the Magdalene/Christ frequency.

While the old empire crumbles, a new earth, a sacred child is being birthed out of the cosmic alembic, through the sacred union of masculine and feminine.

Chariklo’s Love: Healing the Pain of “I Am”

A big part of Chiron’s medicine and particularly when Chiron is in Aries is the healing of the Self. Aries boldly proclaims, “I AM!” while Chiron points to our deepest wounds- Chiron in Aries therefore indicates a wound to the Self on a core level. In this case the Chirotic journey is about healing through claiming, or reclaiming of the Self.

Chiron wounds are of a particular quality, they seem to permeate the body and seep into our mind becoming etched in our soul as distorted identity signatures. In working with the Centaurs there is often a thread of ancestral pain weaving through the generations and like puppets on a string it can feel like forces beyond our grasp are controlling our lives. This is a deep programming that needs to be excavated and released before we are finally free from the past. The Chiron return is an initiation that facilitates this process if we are open to it.

Collectively too there is trauma-based conditioning that affects whole generations of people… what will be the long-term effect of children born in the current Chiron in Aries group? The last Chiron in Aries group, particularly in the US, were born into a society in the grip of an increasingly brutal and shadowy war, racial violence and protests, and covert government social experiments. These psychic legacies infiltrate the collective consciousness shaping our societies and form the matrices that influence, either positively or negatively, our shared reality.

The pain of reclaiming the Self is the pain of “I Am”.

Recently a Chiron in Aries woman referred to herself as “Marmite”, and I knew exactly what she meant… not everybody loves her, and yet, she, like many of us are finding a way through the pain of “I AM” and learning to stand proudly in who we are regardless of whether we are liked, accepted, or approved of.  No matter how strong the individual, wounds of rejection run deep in our human need to belong; to leave the comfort and acceptance of the tribe and set out on the hero’s or heroine’s journey is no small undertaking. To see it through is a great achievement, it is the liberation symbolised in the Grail mythology… the Grail being the sacred vessel of the Self.

When it comes to reclaiming the Self we are essentially alone in our quest as we strive to release the heavy baggage of shame, guilt, not being good enough, being wrong, bad, faulty, less than, unworthy, mad, as well as many other denizens of self-loathing and sabotage.

The keys of Chiron can birth us into being our own loving parents who may have been sadly absent; the unconditional lover who never showed up because we were busy sending a message to the world that we are undeserving and unlovable. In the highest expression of Chiron’s initiation we become our own beloved loving ourselves unconditionally, recognising and cherishing our sacred divine essence.

From this state of grace no one can dislodge us from our seat of power.

This magical transformation is seen in the myth of Chiron specifically through the unconditional love and devotion offered by his wife Chariklo. If we accept Chariklo as an archetype existing on the inner planes and not an outside influence (although she can be), she is a symbol of the unconditional love that we finally uncover in ourselves.

Originally a naiad or water nymph, Chariklo shapeshifted into a Centaur so that she could become one with Chiron. For Chiron, this gesture of devotion is utterly healing and transmutes the initial wound of rejection by his mother.

In his book on Chiron, Zane Stein says,

Here was a woman who not only accepted his centaurean form, totally, completely and without judgment, but actually saw him as beautiful and willingly took his form herself so that she could be close to him. How could he not love her back with all of his being? And his unconditional love was the beginning of his healing, from that first deep wound of his mother’s rejection.

When go through the sometimes-excruciating pain of “I Am” and learn to love ourselves unconditionally, we activate our inner Chariklo. Of course it is wonderful if another person sees and loves us so deeply, but the true marriage is within. It is only by discovering union with ourselves on the deepest level that we can accept an outer union of the same depth.

The fact that Chiron is able to transmute the poison of rejection through Chariklo’s love speaks of our journey to wholeness when we finally realise that all the shame and self-loathing we have been carrying was a projection from the outside, and sadly often from our families of origin and communities. Chariklo’s love is the panacea needed to discover that the greatest love of all is found in the exquisite healing relationship with ourselves.

The Chiron return at around age 50 is the threshold over which we can begin the journey of self-reclamation. The Chariklo return at age 63 is in its highest expression an opportunity to radiate our love from a sphere of wholeness that is neither weakened or diminished by sharing our unique gift with others.

Juno: Untangling the Knots of Unholy Matrimony

‘Jupiter and Juno on Mount Ida’ by James Barry 1773

For the past few days asteroid Juno has been courted by the Sun in a close conjunction and while Mars and Venus are in opposition it seems like a good time to spotlight relationships, and in particular marriage (which includes any long term committed partnership).

While Mars and Venus battle it out in a heated passion, the tension between Juno and her consort Jupiter (or Hera and Zeus in the Greek pantheon) has a different tone. For one thing, unlike Venus who frankly couldn’t care less about her wedding vows to Vulcan, Juno is the paragon of matrimonial fidelity, a virtue deeply revered by the culture of the time.

In the mythology different versions of how Juno and Jupiter come into matrimonial union exist but always the outcome is the same – pretty perverse in that both parties consciously strive to cause pain and humiliation to the other- unlike Mars and Venus who are just trying to work out their inherent differences. It would appear that Juno and Jupiter are engaged in what today would be considered a toxic relationship. While Zeus carelessly flaunts his sexual indiscretions in Hera’s face, Hera devises increasingly cruel ploys in her quest for revenge- often taken out on Zeus’ seducees.

Theirs is an unhappy marriage in which no divine child is produced. While Hera engages in parthenogenesis (conception without sperm) to deny Zeus a rightful heir, Zeus impregnates many mortal and immortal women, sometimes consensually, oftentimes not.

As lover/adversaries these two live in a perpetual state of combat separating and getting back together… like that couple… you know the one.

And yet Zeus respects Hera’s opinion and often seeks her counsel. Other signs of Zeus’ need- not necessarily love- of Hera are evident in several accounts such as promising Vulcan the hand of Venus for Hera’s release- which of course may explain Venus’ nonchalant attitude in her marriage… she was a trade off in the Hera/Zeus wars. And don’t we see this with destructive relationships generally- other people unwitingly pilled into the ring?

While Zeus hurls thunderbolts at Hera, Hera binds Zeus to a bed with a leather thong exposing him as a laughingstock and figure of ridicule before all the gods. Once freed Zeus then punishes Hera by suspending her from the heavens with golden bracelets and weights around her ankles. There is just no stopping these two and yet… Hera always, after periods of withdrawal and rejuvenation returns faithfully to her husband.

In the psychology of modern relationships we might wonder why people remain with partners who continue to humiliate and abuse them. Like Hera, no one can ever truly be fulfilled in such a marriage. Friends look on incredulously, unable to comprehend why they would allow themselves to be degraded and mistreated… yet again.

In the relationship parlance of today we would say that Hera and Zeus are trapped in a serious trauma bond tightly woven with co-dependency, narcissism, and maybe a touch of BDSM.

And yet these types of relationships often provide the catalyst to break us open so that we may progress to the next level and a step nearer to true soulful union. Wherever Juno appears in our chart we can be sure of a treasure trove to mine. If we can see beyond our projections and use the pain of relationship to initiate us into our truth, Juno might just set us free.

The myth of Hera and Zeus is also linked to the Golden Apple tree, a wedding gift given to Hera by Gaia as part of a ritual to unite two cultures- this may provide validation for the usurping of the earth goddess traditions by the encroaching Sky gods.

In astrology asteroid Juno can point us to our individual style of ‘doing’ marriage and commitment. It can show us where we are challenged in fulfilling those needs and act as a guide into a deeper understanding of our relationship signature beyond the placement of Venus, Mars, or the Moon. Juno adds another layer, a very important one that has to do with our soul’s need to merge with another and shows us where we are blocked, hijacked or vulnerable to this end.

In psychology of relationships the Juno archetype is a fundamental component in a three-fold process toward full soul union with another. This applies to both men and women.

Lilith the dark maid is the first stage, she simply will not tolerate any form of inequality or abuse, she does not wait around to try and work it out, and she ain’t suggesting marriage counselling. Instead she claims her freedom by pleasing herself. She will not be tamed and is a law unto herself… but eventually that becomes lonely and the soul calls for union.

Juno as divine consort is where we learn about equality, commitment, sacrifice, and surrender. It is where we get to experience ourselves in the territory of infidelity, betrayal, insecurity, and abandonment- or in secure loving attachement based on trust and respect. Who are we in this? In what ways do we sacrifice ourselves to be loved? We learn just what it takes to become whole in ourselves and still be able to open deeply and surrender to another. Any inequalities, abuses, power struggles, and martyrdom will be highlighted, played out and brought to our attention in order to be balanced… but often very painfully.

The magic of relationships is that until we finally honour Juno we will repeatedly attract partners who will show us the next big lesson we need to learn on our journey toward alchemical union.

“In true occult terms, marriage is a path of transcendence that transforms the ego’s separateness into the larger whole.”

By house placement, sign and aspect Juno describes our fundamental needs in marriage and shows both our potential pathology and potential liberation.

The third element in the triad toward self-realized partnership is Psyche, this is when we achieve full soul union with another through the principle of Eros…
