New Year Blessings!
I know, it’s a little late off the mark, however it’s not until around this time, mid-January when I feel the new year energies begin to rise. And what a year it looks set to be. Even in the first two months we will experience a lot of change and cosmic movement.
With mystical Neptune re-entering Aries on 26 January, the conditions are ripe for a collective awakening over the next thirteen years. This is not the dreamy passive spirituality that is disembodied from the world of flesh and blood, it is alive, embodied, and active.
Each of us is called to express our unique selfhood in the world. Ideals and purpose are redefined as we create a new cultural landscape. This time calls for authenticity and the courage to express it.
Splits between ego and Self if properly tended can lead to psychological insight and spiritual evolution. On the personal level these profound planetary alignments can facilitate our own journey to individuation.
In the alchemy work I am currently engaged in, we are exploring the rubedo stage of the alchemical process; Neptune entering Mars ruled Aries could in fact be an astrological expression of rubedo, “the reddening”, and the merging of spirit and matter.
Neptune comes with a caution – as do all transpersonal planets- the danger is that in engaging with the archetypal realms, one may be flooded with unconscious material. This could lead to over identification with the archetypes creating zealot-like tendencies that come off as aggressive or righteous. Alternatively, being overwhelmed by the mystical may cause us to venture down paths of escapism and disembodied idealism. The key is to allow as much of the spiritual as we can properly process while at the same time remaining grounded, directive, and sure-footedly in the world.
A step into the unknown, to the future that is not yet created may also invite a little chaos, however if we can weather it, it will build our spiritual stamina and resilience. The test of this time is to balance ego with the Self, spiritual ideals with structure and clarity, and boldness with humility.
Neptune will form a conjunction with Saturn on February 20th, helping us to dissolve old structures and binds that have become prohibitive to our evolution. The cardinal energy of Aries gives us the impetus to build new ones. This truly is a pioneering time in which vision meets application.
In my practice I am nearing the end of the first series of “The Alchemy of Menopause” work. When I first set out on this journey, I did not have a clear picture of how it would go, and that’s because it doesn’t “go” as such, it flows. Menopause and midlife transition are a tenuous path between dissolution and restructure. The core maxim of alchemy Solve et Coagula lends itself well to the menopausal journey. The old self gives way to a new but unknown self; the stage in between is a precious birthing and must be tended with patience and care. On the macrocosmic level the same is true of the new culture we are birthing.
Within this flow I have discovered new currents that I hope to follow. One of these is a deepening into the “Astrology of Menopause”, working specifically with Saturn, Chiron, and Uranus.
Alchemy has also taken me deeper into womb work, ancestral lineage and patterns, and new perspectives on generational trauma.
As well as the alchemy work, I am on a journey related to themes of the feminine psyche. At the centre of this enquiry sits the question of whether the individuation process is different for men and women. While the destination may be the same, the journey to get there, I believe, is different. As I dig deeper into this work, I realise that the female psyche has not been fully charted, and that Jung, that great mystic and mediator of the unconscious, for all his extraordinary insights had a somewhat problematic relationship with the feminine. As Jung himself acknowledged, “one understands nothing psychological unless one has experienced it oneself” (CW 9, ii).
The tension between Jung and the feminine is acutely present in his relationship with Christiana Morgan, a visionary and brilliant woman who was his analysand, a lay psychotherapist, artist, and creator with a stunning ability to mine the contents of her own and the collective unconscious. Although largely unacknowledged, Christiana was also a significant contributor to the Harvard School of Psychology, and co-creator of the “Thematic Apperception Test”.
The content for Jung’s “Visions Seminars” which were transcribed from a series of lectures he led in Zurich between 1930 and 1934, centred around the analysis of Christiana Morgan’s visionary art and writing. Jung neither named or credited Christiana as the producer of the material.
Studying Christiana’s chart in relation to the archetypal images and visions that broke through the barrier of her conscious mind is fascinating. At a time when I am transcribing my own journals which comprise largely of dreams and unconscious material, I consider her an inspiration, ground breaker and interpreter of the female psyche.
And finally, you may be interested in my Current Offerings:
Until 3rd February I am offering a special New Year rate on astrology consultations. Full length sessions (2 hours) for the promotional cost of £90. Bookings must be made by 3rd February, however appointments can be after that.
For shorter sessions, which may be beneficial for solar return charts, or specific enquiries, I am currently offering 1-hour sessions for £60.
If you are interested in “The Alchemy of Menopause” work, I am creating a second series. Details to follow or by request.
If you would like a listening ear and someone to talk things through with, I also offer 50-minute “Conversations” that acknowledge the principles of Person-Centred Counselling. Sometimes it is just good to talk; these sessions are offered on a sliding scale between £30 and £50.
Aside from astrology and alchemy,I am planning various group site visits, and a Women’s Sacred Land retreat. This is part of a project called “The Way of the Serpent”. The core of this work is visiting sacred sites in Scotland with an emphasis on the feminine, the outer and manifest aspects of the feminine psyche in the landscape. Numbers for this will be limited to keep the group energy strong.

And so, as we go boldly together into this year of transformation, and what some astrologers are referring to as the “Great Karmic Reset”, I wish you well and I am here to serve in whatever way I can.
