April Full Moon in Libra: A Woman Out Of Darkness- “The New Lilith”.

I have no doubt that on some subtle, unspoken level I was assigned the role of lineage bearer and cycle breaker, however it is time to free myself from the weight of this obligation. I do not resent the role I was given, nor do I hold any resentment towards my family. There is nothing to forgive; all of us, each one, had a role to play, each one guided by his or her soul. I feel only love and compassion for us all, and yes, some sadness too for what we have endured.

In approaching material frozen in time, we can like Perseus, survive being turned to stone under Medusa’s petrifying gaze, by approaching slowly, indirectly, cautiously, patiently, and symbolically…through the looking glass. If our approach is correct, we can release trapped inspiration and creativity that has been trapped in the unconscious for aeons.

While the howl of the “wild feminine” is returning to our eco-psychic structures, Kerényi, highlights how Athene transforms “darker animal nature” into civilized forms. He frames Athene as a “protectress against the ravaging impulse of archaic elements.” Her role as teacher of crafts offers practical application of intelligence used to harness and contain lawless dark powers.

On her breastplate Pallas Athene wears the slain head of the Gorgon Medusa, indicating that she has integrated the hidden, mystical, and dark aspects of the feminine. She contains within her the power of the serpent mysteries. While the serpent is one of her totems, so too is the owl; this speaks to her ability to see in the dark. Knowing the secrets of the dark alongside her ability for pattern recognition and mental agility, Pallas is protected against negative unconscious and subconscious influence. Pallas is not easily played.

It is interesting then, that at the moment of a masonic ritual involving the Cross of Salem, Saturn who among other things represents patriarchal authority, is in a conjunction with asteroid Lilith, she-devil of the Talmud. Symbolically this can be seen as a clash between rebellious, untamed and feminine instincts and structural patriarchal authority. It could also represent a symbolic take over.

The demons that we call upon Kali to help us slay are not necessarily external, they are also the demons we have inherited through our blood lines and DNA. Though she destroys, Kali is ultimately a loving mother who liberates her devotees. She guides us back to the truth of the heart and away from the distortions of the mind.

Like the butterfly in the chrysalis, transformation on the deepest level is at work. We are in the alchemical alembic. Just as a fully formed adult butterfly waits in the pupal before emerging, we too may wait until we instinctively know when it is the right time to return to the world. This is the moment of “kairos”, it is the sacred timing of our own soul that will not be prematurely willed by the ego or the demands of “kronos” (clock time). This is a delicate and critical operation.

My point is that the cosmic feminine principle known throughout millennia as the goddess is today as likely to be subjected to deep fake counterfeit as anything else. Having already been somewhat demoted to goddess of romantic love, pleasure and material value in many modern astrological interpretations, it is wise to remember that Venus is a far more formidable essence of the feminine principle. It is clear, at least on the surface of today’s society, that eros is undeveloped and repressed.

As Venus begins to leave the underworld she will meet Pluto two days later in an almost exact conjunction. In Sumerian mythology, when Ishtar (Sumerian Inanna) leaves the underworld, she must fulfil a strict law requiring that no one leave the realm of the dead without providing a substitute. Symbolically speaking this speaks to the eternal process of death and rebirth. On a psychological level, once we have retrieved and won back unconscious material from our personal unconscious and the collective unconscious, the processes of transformation, death and rebirth continue Ad infinitum.
