Chiron goes retrograde- “What ails thee?”

The Fisher King by Leonora Carrington, 1961

The Fisher King by Leonora Carrington.

Yesterday I wrote about the Grail, about connecting with our uniqueness on our journey toward individuation or soul making. Our uniqueness is a blend of our gifts, talents, wounds, and woes…

Chiron teaches us to recognise that our wounds may also be our greatest gifts.

When Chiron goes retrograde- as it does from today until mid-December- our core wounds may be felt more acutely however the opportunity is to discover new ways to transform them.

Archetypally Chiron can be explored through the myth of the Fisher King from the Grail legends- while the king is wounded the land lays in waste; redemption comes when Parzival, the young knight finally has the nous to ask the question, “what ails thee”. Failing to ask this question prevents healing of the wounded King and the wasteland. Asking the question requires nothing less than absolute willingness to face the truth.

In terms of psychology asking ourselves that same question “what ails thee” is the key to our healing. Chiron asks us to face our deepest pain so that we might know it. Knowing it is not necessarily the same as healing it, rather Chiron encourages us to transmute the wound so that we are no longer disabled by it… and then claim it as a power.

Chiron teaches us to not only bear our cross but in doing so to help others to overcome their own afflictions by being a living light in the face of adversity. In this way Chiron as the Shaman archetype is often equated with Christ.

In the gospel of St. Luke, Jesus says,

“Whosoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

In the Chiron journey of reclamation, we become our own hero or heroine. Once we have reclaimed ourselves, we let go of the people, situations, circumstances, limitations, and voices of contempt that rejected, disrespected, or tried to change us, and stand firm in the truth of who we are. Or we develop a new relationship with them.

I am available for astrology consultations to explore how Chiron operates in your chart/life.

Amber, Monica… and Lilith

Image "LIlith" by hairofmedusa

Image “LIlith” by hairofmedusa

I should probably step away from the Depp/Heard courtroom drama…we probably all should.

As Monica Lewinsky says in her piece for Vanity Fair published yesterday,

“This is nothing more than courtroom porn.”

No stranger to slander and public derision herself, Lewinsky takes the opportunity to remind us of the collective implications inherent in such high-profile scandals.

“It’s the larger implications for our culture that concern me the most: the ways we have stoked the flames of misogyny and, separately, the celebrity circus.”

As an astrologer I cannot help looking to the astrological symbolism for deeper perspectives on people, relationships, and collective events.

Today (when the Western world awaits the verdict) the Sun is at 11 degrees of Gemini which happens to be the exact point of Amber Heard’s Black Moon Lilith (mean) and her Chiron, the Wounded Healer.

Black Moon Lilith can show feminine power and especially unacceptable feminine power; it also speaks of the rejection and punishment that can ensue as a result of that power.

If you don’t know the story of Lilith, I recommend you find out because one thing is for sure, she refuses to be silenced and continues to make her presence felt ever since being exiled by the patriarchal gods a few thousand years ago.

Continuing on the Lilith theme, Amber’s Black Moon Lilith (true), is closely conjunct her Venus at 25 degrees Taurus- again this speaks of the dark exiled feminine working in tandem as one entity with the goddess of love, value, money, and relationship. In Taurus money and resources are particularly highlighted… whose pockets are being lined?

In both instances, these signatures point to a hidden, rejected, feared and dare I say demonised feminine- demonised by a patriarchal consciousness that seeks to control whatever it fears… over and over and over again.

As if we need further convincing that Amber Heard is strongly involved with the Lilith archetype, her Dark Moon Lilith- the dark side of the Moon- is exactly conjunct her north node (her soul’s destiny) at 29 Degrees of Aries.

But what is her part in expressing the Lilith archetype?

That very much depends on which way the verdict goes though as anybody who has been even slightly following the case can see, vast waves of hatred and even death threats directed at Amber Heard far outweighs opposition to Johnny Depp… in fact “justice for Johnny” is the popular slogan on social media.

Lewinsky comments-

“I wasn’t surprised that the memes about Amber Heard far outnumbered those about Johnny Depp. I wasn’t surprised that the cruel and vitriolic discourse was predominantly aimed at the woman.”

Is history repeating itself?

Is the strong woman who speaks out still being exiled form the Garden and blamed for the sins of mankind- in short, is the woman who is not so accommodating and passive to patriarchal control and male expectations still playing the role of the scapegoat?

The Scapegoat is something Monica Lewinsky knows only too well; in 1989 her life was almost ruined in the aftermath of the Clinton scandal.

I have had Monica Lewinsky’s chart in my database for some time; her story is among those which I feel merit attention in considering women who suffer at the hands of misogyny in our culture.

Just like Amber Heard, Monica Lewinsky has a prominent Dark Moon Lilith exactly conjunct Chiron.

Chiron wounds are not entirely our own, while they are formed by our relationship with our environment and then what we make that mean in ourselves, the wounds have a collective component even though they are expressed through us. That is why there is an element of service or duty connected to Chiron- particularly once we pass our Chiron return and are able to help others overcome similar afflictions… it is right and timely that Lewinsky is speaking out on this case.

Orbiting between Saturn and Uranus Chiron takes us out of the individual and social spheres and into the collective. Chiron is in many ways connected to the scapegoat, the one who take a hit for the group, and who ultimately sacrifices his or her life. Through the sacrifice much is learned and healed.

But did we learn our lessons from Lewinsky’s plight?

A young and somewhat vulnerable woman who took the flack for her own indiscretions and that of the most powerful man in the United States at the time… to the point of almost ending her life.

Aren’t we here again… the powerful man leaving the scene of the crime untarnished while the Lilith-like woman, seducer and destroyer of men takes a metaphorical public stoning and is exiled from the Garden- in this case Hollywood?

Lewinsky’s north node (destiny) is conjunct Dejanira, an asteroid involved in victimisation.

It seems that for both Heard and Lewinsky their fates are bound in the ancient wound of the feminine that ceaselessly throughout time seeks to be healed and ceaselessly throughout time is reopened.

The salt that is rubbed in the wound takes on many guises, and we the “audience” collude.

As the woman who endured public humiliation and lived to tell the tale, Lewinsky says, “we are all guilty”.

Asteroid Kaali Conjunct Sun: David Icke

What do Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, Osho, and David Icke have in common?

Before I answer that it’s a happy birthday to David Icke- with his Sun at 9-degree Taurus the partial solar eclipse is directly hitting not only his Sun but also asteroid Kaali. Mr. Icke also has a Uranus Moon conjunction which I have previously written about… it is not an easy placement and one which I have myself.

But back to Kaali…

Last night I presented a talk/workshop on Kaali’s prominent position in the new moon eclipse chart- conjunct Chiron at 14 Aries. There’s not a lot out there on how Kaali operates in the birth chart and so it’s really only an exploration. What I did find interesting is that Kaali conjunct Sun shows up rather a lot in the charts of Royals… someone has put together a list of the Kaali placements in the charts of many Royals going way back.

http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum28/HTML/001431.html

In our time, both Queen Elizabeth II and Prince William have this signature within a 2-degree orb, and both have their Sun at a critical degree- Prince William at 0 cancer, and the Queen at 0 Taurus… move over Charles!

With the exception of the Queen (unless her chart is a bit out), the other three have the Kaali Sun conjunction on or close to the descendant… could this be a signature of power over others? Or at least a person a person who has a lot of influence over others? One interpretation I read claim that a Kaali Sun conjunction is the signature of a person who was a spiritual adept in a previous life (Kaali is kundalini).

Anyways, happy birthday Mr. Icke- love or loathe him he certainly ruffles a few feathers.

Interestingly, today is also the birthday of one of David’s arch nemesis- Jacob Rothschild.

“The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words”

New Moon Solar Eclipse: Dwellers at the Threshold and the Resolution of Opposites.

Kali_Yantra

Kali Yantra

On Saturday 30th April, a new moon solar eclipse heralds another threshold in our collective human journey; the new moon and the solar eclipse occur at almost exactly the same time (13 minutes difference) at 10° of Taurus. Eclipses are celestial events that bring about change and transformation, sometimes suddenly and with lasting consequences. This is the first eclipse of the year.

Solar eclipses occur during the new moon phase when the Sun and Moon position at the exact same degree within the same sign. Eclipses generally exert influence and power, appearing to speed things up and bring things to a head. If we have been blocked or are dragging our feet in relation to what on a deeper level we know needs to happen, eclipses have a way of bringing about the inevitable…ready or not.

The Sun/Moon conjunction at 10 ° Taurus is also conjunct Uranus (at 14 ° Taurus), planet of change, awakening and radical transformation- this serves to intensify the eclipse energy. I would not be surprised if collectively we experience a sudden shift in matters connected with Taurus, for example in the food chain, if not immediately then over the coming months perhaps culminating in the second eclipse season in November.

The lunar nodal axis in Taurus/ Scorpio suggest that previously hidden or unacknowledged factors may come to the fore… this is particularly likely as Pluto transits the last couple of degrees of Capricorn where we have seen a dismantling of top-down structures.

Prominent this new moon lunar eclipse is the Dark Goddess Hekate in an almost exact conjunction with the north node (by 9 arc minutes) at 23 ° Taurus.

Hekate is the keeper of the keys, dweller on the threshold, and one of the few gods who has access to all realms including the underworld. As the only one to witness the descent of Persephone into Hades, Hekate sees everything… there is nothing that escapes her.

With Pluto as the ruler of Scorpio where the south nodal currently sits, Hekate’s presence on the north node can bring up and draw out information from the depths making it conscious on the material/human level of consciousness.

Also of note on the new moon solar eclipse is asteroid Kaali conjunct Chiron at 14° Aries. Dark Mother Kaali is both the destroyer and liberator; she destroys in order to liberate and cuts away what no longer serves. With her scimitar, sword, and trident, Kaali cuts the cords that bind humanity in bondage and dances in the flames of purification.

Existing behind the veil of reality, similar to Hekate, Kaali sees it all. Much of what we witness on the mundane level of day-to-day consciousness is only a fraction, a pale representation, of what goes on behind the scenes on the astral planes… the worldly word is to a large extent illusionary, a wall of veils that confuse distract, seduce, manipulate, and appease.

When the veils are lifted, as shocking as it may be, the truth is revealed and from there we are called to make informed choices and reclaim our Selves.

Today happens to be Buddha’s birthday and this morning I found one of his sayings which I feel is apt in the context of our times when the veils of illusions are beginning to fall.

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.

The question is, do we want to know and are we ready for it? Are we ready for the Dark Mother?

These things do not come easy and should not be taken lightly. As Jung says in Symbols of Transformation-

No one should deny the danger of the descent, but it can be risked. No one need risk it, but it is certain that someone will. And let those who go down the sunset way do so with open eyes, for it is a sacrifice which daunts even the gods. Yet every descent is followed by an ascent; the vanishing shapes are shaped anew, and a truth is valid in the end only if it suffers change and bears new witness in new images, in new tongues, like a new wine that is put into new bottles.

In the descent the ego is dissolved and dismantled in order to give birth to a new experience- a new image; this is the power of the Dark Goddess who brings about the death of the old and midwifes the new-born consciousness. Deeply connected with the phases of the Moon, She is present through each stage of creation and dissolution, each out breath and in breath; She is privy to information from behind the veil not normally accessible to the conscious mind.

We feel Her through our instincts, dreams, feelings, and intuition; She asks us to challenge our beliefs and sometimes we are shaken to our core.

In Eastern philosophy as in alchemy true transformational power lies in the is the union of opposites.

Jung specified his psychological understanding of tantric yoga as follows:

It sees the aim of human development as bringing about an approach to and connection between the specific nature of the non-ego and the conscious ego.

Dweller on the threshold, the Dark Goddess in her many manifestations is the connector between the conscious and unconscious mind however She has been largely demonised, feared and exiled leaving us vulnerable to an externalised authority which may or may not have the purest intentions. This handing over of power ultimately denies the possibility of awakening or return to Self, through ignorance and separation from truth.

The sabian symbol for the new moon eclipse speaks of the need to prepare the mind and cultivate the ego in a positive way-

PHASE 41 (TAURUS 11°): A WOMAN WATERING FLOWERS IN HER GARDEN.

KEYNOTE: Development of the powers of the mind on which ego-consciousness is based.

This is the first stage of the ninth sequence of phases, a sequence that basically refers to the overall situation related to the development of the ego.

The Keyword here is CULTIVATION.

In his journey through India Jung visited the many temples of Kaali and was greatly affected by the experience leading him to conclude that evil is not negative but positive. For a man such as Jung who had been conditioned by the milieu of his time and was an esteemed figure in his privileged intellectual patriarchal culture, indoctrinated to an extent by Christian duality, this was a remarkable insight which paved the way for transpersonal and depth psychology that permeated the Western psyche in the decades to come.

During the Kundalini Seminars Jung’s travel companion, Fowler McCormick, made the following commentary-

As we would go through temples of Kali, which were numerous at almost every Hindu city, we saw the evidence of animal sacrifice: the places were filthy dirty—dried blood on the floor and lots of remains of red betelnut all around, so that the colour red was associated with destructiveness.

Concurrently in Calcutta Jung began to have a series of dreams in which the colour red was stressed.

It wasn’t long before dysentery overcame Dr. Jung and I had to take him to the English hospital at Calcutta. . .

A more lasting effect of this impression of the destructiveness of Kali was the emotional foundation it gave him for the conviction that evil was not a negative thing but a positive thing. The influence of that experience in India, to my mind, was very great on Jung in his later years.

~Fowler McCormick, Kundalini Seminars, Page xxviii.

What does it mean that Jung concluded that evil is not bad?

The union of opposites accepts that everything is part of the whole and nothing is separate. Kali the Great Mother is both the Destroyer and the Liberator; Hekate shows us three paths which may be taken- we have a choice; Persephone is liberated and empowered by her time in Pluto’s domain; Inanna frees her Dark sister Ereshkigal by acknowledging her suffering and enduring her own.

The Dark Goddess is the liberator because She leads us into the core of our being and the secrets of our soul encouraging us to be what we truly are… in our darkness and our light.

In shining a light on that which we fear as evil it no longer has power over us… and we are not separated from Source. It is only when we are asleep, unaware of what influences us and creates our worldly reality that we suffer through ignorance. The Dark Goddess is the slayer of demons, the destroyer of ignorance and the restorer of sovereignty.

This new moon solar eclipse, especially as She (the Dark Goddess) partners with our collective destiny (the north node), and our collective wound (Chiron) I feel She is inviting us to take a deep breath and take look at what lies beneath.

Persephone’s Power

Art work~ Persephone and Hades by Henry Shmulevich

Following on from a previous post about the mother wound, and as my focus on relationships continues, this full moon calls me deeper into psyche through the myth of Kore/Persephone and the Eleusinian mysteries.

At the time of the full moon on Friday 18th March, Persephone is at 9 Gemini 0’ 56” and Ceres is at 8 Gemini 49’ 45”; mother and daughter are in tight conjunction just at the time of year- early spring- when the ancient Greeks marked the Lesser Eleusinian Mysteries, when Persephone leaves Hades and the underworld to be reunited with her mother… but she is changed, she is no longer Kore innocent maiden goddess, she is now Persephone Queen of the Underworld.

What can the Eleusinian mysteries teach us about feminine consciousness today?

Myths are shapeshifters, they meet us where our own consciousness is; they are multi- faceted, offering up many interpretations depending on where we are in our soul’s journey or psychic transformation. Myths cannot be pinned or fixed to one interpretation; each interpretation shows different aspects and angles, all are valid, all are true. Myths move in spirals. Astro mythology (exploring how myths unfold in our own life through our natal birth chart) is a powerful way to dance with the archetypes and meet ourselves at a deeper level.

How is the myth of Persephone speaking to you, or through you?

Discovering where Persephone sits in your own astrology chart can be a key to the mystery. For myself Persephone is 2 degrees from my descendant and 3 degrees from my north node- this points to Persephone as an archetype that is connected with my soul’s journey but… also suggests that I do not- or have not- fully owned this part of myself… until now.

What is it that I am owning? The dark feminine yes, but it also linked with two main themes: Meeting with my animus including the dark animus; and a separation from the maternal cords that have bound me to not my personal mother perse, but the mother wound that has entangled and prohibited me from growing into mature womanhood. With this aspect I am likely to encounter Persephone in others or be attracted to this quality in others even while I overlook my own Persephone and personal power.

A descent to Hades, the unconscious, sheds light on the forces, beliefs, stories, wounds, fears, and ego identifications that allow us to stay trapped, and to a degree powerless, vulnerable, and limited. It is often the case that a daughter will unconsciously remain small or less than in order to appease her mother who is unconsciously angry or resentful at her own unlived life. This powerless state leaves a woman (daughter) open to manipulation because she unconsciously occupies the role of innocent maiden sometimes long after she has arrived at the stage of life where what is required is mature womanhood.

To an extent the collective is guilty of infantilising women.

The other important aspect of the myth is that during her descent Persephone confronts and integrates death… no longer are the summer meadows endlessly blooming with pretty flowers, the hand of death has risen to ensure that the old dies away allowing the new to flourish…the laws of death and rebirth are honoured for the sake of renewal.

The Eleusinian mysteries can be read as a menstrual myth but also as a menopause myth; a first sexual encounter; a meeting with the animus; a confrontation with death; any transition, or rite of passage. It can also be about accepting the darker aspects of human nature both individually and collectively as well as understanding and coming to terms with power and its operations.

Claiming our own power might not look like good girl behaviour!

Individually if we exist, or strive to exist, only in the light we become unbalanced; our darkness is cast to the shadows and projected onto the outside world or onto others leaving us vulnerable to attracting what we don’t own in ourselves.

This full moon is an opportunity to dive into the depths, a soul retrieval, to reclaim the parts of ourselves that have been banished to the underworld which in the case of modern women where we find our treasure and power. Lilith is an excellent guide in this.

It is also a potent time to consider how we- now that we have owned ourselves- go forward in our relationships, particularly those relationships which have been based on an imbalance of power. Will we forever appease others and carry their unowned stuff, or will we finally place it where it belongs? This question is especially relevant when considering our own mother daughter dynamics… bearing in mind that we find mother in many faces.

I am inextricably linked with my mother line, it cannot be otherwise, but I also hold the power to transform the dynamics of my psyche through what Marion Woodman calls “soul making”, to restore my instincts and live directly from my centre and become a woman who is conscious of herself as a living soul.

I transform my psyche and claim my power through bringing my unconscious to light and through meeting and integrating my animus.

Magdalena on the Galactic Centre- Venus/Mars Conjunction: Full Moon Sacred Union Activation

Image- Mary Magdalene and Yeshua (ChristoSophia), Kilmore Church, Dervaig, Scotland.

Image- Mary Magdalene and Yeshua (ChristoSophia), Kilmore Church, Dervaig, Scotland.

On 16 February, the Moon will be full at 27 ° Leo, opposite the Sun at 27 ° Aquarius. Illuminated by the Sun this is a fiery moon, a Queenly moon, reflecting the light of Aquarian consciousness from the throne of the heart. A Leo moon indicates a solar feminine quality, a signature that is also reflected in Venus’ blazing glory as Morning star.

While the dance of divine feminine and divine masculine is highlighted in the opposition of the luminaries- Sun & Moon- cosmic lovers, Venus & Mars tango in an exact conjunction at 16 ° Capricorn. Magnetic Venus, core essence of the feminine nature in her manifest form awakens the impulse to regenerative life-force, activating Mars’ libido and vitality… the Goddess of Love is being penetrated by her cosmic consort. The union takes place at 16 ° Capricorn, sanctioned by Earth bound Law Keeper and Lord of Karma, Saturn; vows made by the union of masculine and feminine at this time have staying power and holds the potential to actualize on the material plane.

This is the hieros gamos- the sacred marriage made manifest through masculine and feminine polarity and union.

At the point of the Moon’s fullness asteroid Magdalena is conjunct the Galactic Center at 26 ° Sagittarius. Mary Magdalene, in whom the hieros gamos takes place archetypally within her own essence and in sacred union with Christ, emanates higher vibrational information from Source to the human sphere. For the Maya, the Galactic Center was the supreme godhead and ultimate creator which they named “Hunab Ku;” for them it was a portal to other galaxies and the consciousness that organizes all matter from a whirling disk into stars, planets, and solar systems. Burst of energy from the Galactic Centre- the cosmic womb- is the portal through which the creator orchestrates the unfolding of our galaxy.

Mary Magdalene Priestess and Keeper of the Womb Mysteries embodies the feminine Christ; She holds within Her being dark and light; She anoints Yeshua and resurrects the human soul. Through sacred feminine gnosis- now mostly lost and suppressed along with other gnostic teachings- Magdalene offers liberation and awakening into our divine nature; she imparts the lost teachings and points to where they may be found… in sacred union within and in sacred union with the beloved. If Christ is pointing to God, Magdalene is pointing to God within, to Sophia, She who consciously descends into physical matter existing as indwelling light.

When Venus’ husband Hephaestus discovered her love affair with Mars, he sets out to shame the couple by ensnaring them in an invisible bronze net of chains, their passion and nudity exposed for all the gods to witness. The marriage between Venus and Hephaestus (Vulcan) however was part of a bargain made by Zeus who promised Hephaestus the hand of Venus/Aphrodite for the release of his consort, Hera when she became trapped by Hephaestus- her own son- on a golden throne… a classic Möbius loop of the ongoing battle of the sexes; a thread that weaves through fairy tales, myths, and stories, manifesting as world history through a distorted mythologem.

The stealing of, entrapment, and raping of the feminine is a staple theme in Greek drama and is reflected through the archetypal distortions and overlays of patriarchy. Use and abuse of feminine energy degraded and desacralized as chattel in systems of power that have commodified and attempted to control the soul has become an intrapsychic reality. Now however the conditions are ripe to dismantle these webs.

At this time, we are being given an opportunity to do things differently; Venus and Mars are magnetic lovers, they are irresistible to one another, beyond any socially approved contract or ‘civil engineering’, they embody the universal law of attraction, the magnetic reproductive force of the feminine penetrated by the generative masculine, who in turn is ‘anointed’ by the feminine. Mary Magdalene and Yeshua symbolically embody the bridal mysteries- She with gnosis of Herself as divine feminine consort in sacred union with the divine masculine, and He in holy service to Her accepting that His resurrection happens through Her.

Magdalena on the Galactic centre… Venus and Mars conjunction… if you believe that we exist in a vibratory universe, that emanations from the planets and other celestial bodies interact with our own soul essence which in itself is a frequency, a cell in the vibrational cosmos, this full moon is an invitation to illuminate and let go of limiting beliefs and patterns constructed according to a world view where divine masculine, and divine feminine have been distorted and degraded.

This is a moment of freedom.

Magdalene stands as the doorway to a higher consciousness beckoning us to enter Her Temple of the Heart.

Also involved in the full moon configuration are the lunar nodes forming a Grand Cross- Sun at 27° Aquarius; Moon at 27° Leo; North Node at 27° Taurus; South Node at 27° Scorpio… a Grand opportunity to reset our collective destiny.

How can we work with this?

Move away from the drama stories: On the lower polarity Mars and Venus act out the battle of the sexes- attraction and repulsion; desire and rejection; jealousy and revenge; fear and manipulation; primal instincts expressed without measure, consequence, or consciousness resulting in shame, infidelity, and transgressions of all sorts.

On the higher polarity- in the Magdalene/Christ vibration- union is lifted from unconscious wounding and destructive patterns to conscious choosing and heart centred relationships where men and women create an alembic of transformation, a sacred geometry of resurrection, not only for themselves, but as a Christ light in the world.

The sabian symbol for the Mars/Venus conjunction is (CAPRICORN 17°): A REPRESSED WOMAN FINDS A PSYCHOLOGICAL RELEASE IN NUDISM.

KEYNOTE: The escape from bondage to social inhibitions and a reliance upon the wisdom of the body.

This I suggest is the gnosis of Mary Magdalene- High priestess; once we accept that we are the Temple, that our bodies are a bio- mystical experience of inner alchemy, the light of that truth shines so powerfully that any man-made laws and rules that impede sacred connection to Source dies in the dust of its own soulless sway. Likewise, connections where disrespect, dishonour, absence of love, abuse or any other low vibrational experience cannot thrive in the Magdalene/Christ frequency.

While the old empire crumbles, a new earth, a sacred child is being birthed out of the cosmic alembic, through the sacred union of masculine and feminine.

Finding the Centre in the Soul’s Journey to Individuation.

Joseph Mallord William Turner- Melrose Abbey- 1822

Painting of Melrose Abbey by English Romantic Painter, Joseph Mallord William Turner- 1822

Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling born 27 January 1775 – 20 August 1854: German philosopher whose Naturphilosophie was dismissed by the scientific community who viewed his work as too metaphysical with a tendency to analogize lacking empirical orientation.

Schelling says,

“There is no greatness without a continual solicitation to madness which, while it must be overcome, must never be completely lacking. One might profit by classifying men in this respect. The one kind are those in whom there is no madness at all … and are so-called men of intellect whose works, and deeds are nothing but cold works and deeds of the intellect…. But where there is no madness, there is, to be sure, also no real, active, living intellect. For wherein is intellect to prove itself but in the conquest, mastery, and ordering of madness?”

This criticism of his work and his quote seem relevant today given our tendency toward empirical science, which in Schelling’s view is not a “living intellect”. There are those who operate in the world of “cold work”, or in other words soulless work; there are those who live in fear and resentment of that apparent authority but have not yet solicited their own (divine) madness. There are those who have embraced it too much and have dissociated from the world in some way preferring instead to live in the labyrinths of their psyche; and there are those who rise to the challenge of mastery by “ordering the madness” that they encounter. This is the grail path; it’s different for everyone.  The trick seems to be in finding containers, structures, and discipline for the overwhelming and vast planes of the inner world and finding a way to ground it in the material world. To quote Schelling again,

“To achieve great things, we must be self-confined…mastery is revealed in limitation.”

It takes a certain kind of single focus to achieve this; the journey toward it is chaotic and many have been blasted along the way. Carl Jung, the giant of analytical and transpersonal psychology made the descent in 1913- 1916, he was supported by his wife Emma Jung who was one of the richest women in Europe at the time, and Toni Wolff, his mistress who lived with the Jung as a second wife and was an important collaborator on Jung’s work- herself a gifted analyst. Jung was also at the top of his game, much respected and honoured within the patriarchal structures of the time. None of this is to discredit Jung, I am a great lover of his work; my point is to highlight the need for structure in our meetings with the unconscious.

Spiritual questing and opening to the archetypal forces, particularly in the new age when there is so much pop spirituality, access to psychedelics, and dare I say bypassing, runs the risk of dissociation and fragmentation. If our psyche has already been opened through something like trauma experienced as a child, the road to integration can be even more challenging and without a strong core we are susceptible to outside influences, open to suggestion, and vulnerable to manipulation.

It’s a rabbit hole as they say, and yet… the urge to break free form an overly rational, cold, and soulless existence burns bright inviting us to individuate, to realise and express the unique essence that we are.

Astrologically if we are very Uranian or Neptunian in our makeup, more effort is needed to ground down in the world of matter- working with Saturn can help.

January Full Moon: The Great Mother Within.

Painting by Ayami Kojima

Painting ‘Persephone’ by Ayami Kojima

About a week into a new Venus cycle and the divine feminine signature is gaining momentum.

Today’s Full Moon is at 27º Cancer- the sign of the Mother- is in opposition to Pluto at 26º Capricorn, sign of the Father. Right next to Pluto is Juno at 24º Capricorn; Juno in her higher aspect represent the divine consort, one half of the sacred marriage, while in her lower polarity expresses the shadow side of relationship where issues of power and manipulation may play out.

Particularly in her conjunction with Pluto this full moon, relationship power dynamics may come to the fore in order to be acknowledged and transformed. If you are in relationship, it might be a good time to check that the power structures of your relationship are balanced and that both you and your partner are giving and receiving in equal measure.

It could also be a time to recognize that you are now ready for something new in relationship, particularly a move into sacred union as many of us are being called to. Whether that is possible in your current relationship or not depends on the awareness willingness of your partner, and as with many things on timing.

Venus is still in her retrograde phase emphasizing the theme of relationship separations and returns… this is highlighted with a Pluto Juno conjunction.

With Moon opposite Pluto and Juno there may be some relationship drama or turmoil to contend with. If you are feeling ready for a new level of relationship however this may now feel tiresome and old hat to you. It is up to you how much you wish to participate in emotional drama.

Exactly conjunct the north node at 28º Taurus is Ceres, representing the Great Mother, nurturing, unconditional love, self-worth, attachment issues, rejection, loss and at the occult level, the blood mysteries, death/rebirth, and transformation. Next to the north node she is highlighting our collective needs and attitudes to this regard. How we were personally mothered, and how we mother (including self-care), what we need to feel loved and nurtured and how we can do this for others is under review as the north node, our collective destiny, moves through the fixed earth sign of Taurus under the rulership of harmony focused Venus.

Less than 2 degrees away from the lunar north node and Ceres, is the maiden daughter, turned Queen of the Underworld, Persephone. This Mother Daughter conjunction speaks to the esoteric mysteries of Eleusis where a descent to the underworld in the house of Hades facilitates an initiatory confrontation with death and offers the promise of renewal. In modern psychological speak, facing and integrating our shadow… and maybe freeing ourselves from the shackles of a spiritually ruptured society.

The Mother Daughter merging at the point of the lunar node, for me, highlights a need for collective surrender and willingness to let go of all that we are holding onto through attachment, emotional insecurity, unresolved trauma patterns from being raised in a society where in many cases the mother principle has been weakened. Clutching to old patterns and wounding prevents breakthrough to a higher level of self hood where the invitation is to merge with the Great Mother within as well as without. In the gnostic teachings it is said that the ‘Kingdom of God is within’, and so it is that the (wild) Garden of the Mother is also an inner condition.

Learning to mother ourselves and to trust the universal Mother has been a feature of our time. In the myth of Persephone, the maiden’s descent is an inevitable if painful necessity on the path of individuation- life and death, Eros, and Thanatos, dark and light must finally co-exist as fertile ground for the sacred marriage to take root.

Remarkably these sacred feminine essences, involving the nodal axis of collective karma, are creating what is known as a ‘Mystic Rectangle’ at today’s full moon.

A mystic rectangle is comprised of two oppositions (Moon opposes Pluto and Juno, and north node, Persephone, Ceres, opposes the south node; two sextiles, north node, Persephone, Ceres sextile the Moon, and Pluto, Juno sextile the south node; and two trines, Moon trine south node, and north node, Persephone, Ceres trine Pluto Juno. This Mystic Rectangle is within a tight 2-degree orb.

If this all seems a bit baffling to non-astrologers, we can take comfort in the words of Dane Rudhyar who says that a Mystic Rectangle denotes ‘Practical Mysticism’ where oppositions that would normally be challenging are alleviated and made smoother by the sextiles and trines.

In short, the above-mentioned dynamics – and let’s face it some of us have been struggling with these issues for a long time -are blessed with a divine opportunity to be worked through much easier and quicker than we have previously believed.

These are super accelerated times and just by bringing our awareness to the issues, having faith in our divine nature, our connection with the planets and asteroids (or gods), and a willingness to raise our vibration as we head into a new age, can trigger profound change.

To recap-

This full moon is shining a potent light on a transforming feminine consciousness particularly as it relates to:

~Partnership/ Sacred Partnership

~Nurturing of Self and Others

~Power balance within relationships

~Attachment issues

~Unresolved emotional mother wound issues

~ Relationship with the Mother god within

~Relationship with the Mother god without

~Our willingness or lack of it to surrender to the depths

~Our collective past in terms of the feminine principle

~Where we are collectively headed in relation to the divine feminine principle

Mythically the essence of Demeter (Ceres) and Persephone is a story of death and renewal- what is within us that can now be metabolised and alchemised into new life (consciousness).

Juno brings to the surface our relationship patterns, hope, desires, and dynamics that will elevate us into our highest potential of sacred union. In doing so Juno will first express any unresolved shadow issues particularly of a power-based theme in her conjunction with Pluto. Are we ready to let go of the drama and fully open to love?

And finally, while it is not included in the mystic rectangle, Vesta is conjunct Pholus in the early degrees of Capricorn offering an opportunity to address sexuality, the presence or absence of sacredness within our sexual relating and reflecting on how our sexual attitudes, behaviours, repressions, or neurosis may have been influenced by our ancestral lineage.

It is a potent time to let a lot of ancestral karma fall way, not through bypassing or rejection but with love and compassion (Ceres) and staking claim to our soul’s unique calling. It is a powerful time to rise above all that has previously defined us.

Venus & The Sun: The Cleansing Light of Venus Retrograde.

Dante_Gabriel_Rossetti_-_Venus_Verticordia

Venus Verticordia (1864-1868) by Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Since the Venus Star point on 8th January, I have been aware of a strong feminine energy guiding us into 2022. The Venus Star Point is when Venus makes a conjunction with the Sun before continuing her journey of transformation, currently from Evening Star to Morning Star. This event is also poetically referred to as ‘Venus kissing the Sun’ and heralds the rebirth of a new Venus Cycle. It could also be said that in her union with the Sun Venus has been cleansed of any obscuration so that she shines in the full light of consciousness.

Venus retrogrades every 18 months and works in 8-year cycles, that is she contacts the same zodiacal constellations, near the same point every eight years. Whatever has surfaced for you this time may well be an echo chamber of a previous dynamic from January 2014, and further back to 2006, and so on when the same or close points of Capricorn were activated

During her retrograde phase lasting around 40 days, we get an opportunity to reflect on how Venus moves in our life. Venus expresses the principle of Eros, how we relate to others particularly in the sphere of intimate relationships, but she is also involved with money, pleasure, and value, including and perhaps most importantly self value. A magnetic force who is often depicted holding a mirror, Venus reminds us that what we attract in our lives is essentially created by an inner vibration that we project into the world. Venus retrograde allows us to take a candid look at all we have attracted and manifested into our lives and consider if some internal cleansing is needed.

Often these inner vibrations operate beneath the veil of consciousness and are influenced by forces in our subconscious and unconscious mind. We are unaware of the internal drivers that compel us to repeat the same pattern over and over again even while consciously we may realize how detrimental or destructive they are. The distortions of the feminine flows back through the millennia and as many of us are discovering, to bring these things to light often involves an uncomfortable journey through a glass darky both in our personal lives and in the wider structures of a world.

The work of removing obfuscations and cleaning our windows to allow for connection to Source rather than a false matrix is essential work of our time.

Reviewing all things related to economics and finances makes sense when Venus is in Saturn ruled Capricorn, but it is complex and muti layered and raises questions around how feminine energy is valued or not in our post capitalist patriarchal culture where the onus is on accumulation with little regard for reciprocity. This plays out on the individual level in gender-based income discrepancies as well as female work being taken for granted and therefore often unpaid and undervalued. How women- and the more archetypal feminine principle- has faired under the auspices of patriarchy is a topic that will need to be thoroughly dissected, reviewed, and renewed if we are to bring to light the shadowy aspects of society.  Sex, money, power, prostitution, pornography, harvesting of feminine energy, abusive dynamics, and economic disempowerment are all territories to be confronted when taking stock of the balance of power.

The mirrors and windows of Venus have become dimmed presenting distorted reflections of the true meaning and value of feminine energy.

How wealth is and has been accumulated demands the clear light of Venus as Morning Star, this is Venus in her warrior aspect who has transformed from the alluring and seductive woman whose role (has become) to please and arouse, into the solar feminine power capable of bringing such things to light. Wealth that has been amassed by plunder of the Earth’s natural resources, the enslavement of human beings, trickery, or any means of enforcing power over are to be reckoned with as people wake up and question dominant narratives that have been given god like authority in the absence of true spiritual connection and a spiritualized Earth.

How we earn money, what we feel we must do in order to find a comfortable home on planet Earth, to exist, to survive, to thrive, these are all questions to consider when Venus is retrograde in Capricorn. When addressing money, the question of integrity is never far behind, not if we are willing to live an authentic life taking responsibility for how we operate in the material world both in relation to other beings and our earthly home. A well-functioning, unobscured, Venus in her uncorrupted essence is an excellent guide in these matters.

This blog is inspired by a dream I had where I was shown the undercurrents operating in my own energy field specifically in relation to money, power, my relationships with men, and also with my family of origin.

Venus Pluto Conjunction & Venus Retrograde: Calling Back the Maidens of the Well- Honouring the Water- A Sacred Reset.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti The Damsel of the Sanct Grael

Venus and Pluto meet tomorrow in an exact conjunction at 25° Capricorn. The Sabian symbol is:

A NATURE SPIRIT DANCING IN THE IRIDESCENT MIST OF A WATERFALL.

KEYNOTE: The ability to perceive the hidden and creative spirit of natural phenomena.

Here we are dealing with the revelation of the spiritual or psychic forces related to the element water. It symbolizes the constant flow of vital energies, the fluidity of a consciousness which finds itself stimulated by change. The great cycle of water within the earth’s biosphere (oceans, clouds, rain, river) symbolizes the basic phases of universal life processes, the ascent and descent of emotional energies and of love. We can personify these phases and speak of “the soul of nature,” and at a cosmic level of “the World-Soul,” anima mundi. Water is the substance of the telluric manifestations of this soul. It is a magical substance.

The consciousness here becomes sensitized to the downward flow of OCCULT ENERGY in its bountiful natural aspect.

The Sabian Symbols are 360 unique representations of vibrational energy that invite us into the imaginal realm to connect with a deeper reality.

When I feel into this symbol the archetype that comes alive for me is the Maidens of the Well from the “Elucidation.”

The Elucidation is an anonymous Old French poem of the early 13th century, which was written as a prologue to Chretien de Troyes’ “Perceval le Conte du Graal” and tells the tale of how the powerful country of Logres (England) came to be destroyed.

Previously the land was well and thriving, rich and poor alike benefitted from the bounty and abundance created by the court of the Rich Fisher. The many flowing and sacred wells were presided over by beautiful maidens who joyfully served pleasing food and refreshing drinks from a golden cup to all passersby, wayfarers, and journeymen.

One day King Amangon -who should have protected the maidens- forced himself upon one of the maidens, deflowering her and carrying her and her golden cup away to serve only him. Soon after the king’s men followed suit and violated the other maidens until all of them disappeared.

In their absence the wells fell silent, and the land went to waste

The kingdom went to ruin

The land was so dead and desolate

That it wasn’t worth two bits

The land was so wasted

That no tree ever bloomed there again

The grasses and flowers withered

And the streams dried up

Afterwards no one could locate

The court of the Rich Fisher.

In the time of King Arthur, the good knights wished to restore the wells and took an oath to protect by their arms the maidens and their bowls, and to destroy the lineage of those who had harmed them.

So began the quest for the Grail.

Because of the maidens there were many battles in the land…

As with all myths the story of the Maidens of the Well is a richly textured and multi-layered tapestry working on many levels of consciousness to reach us where we. They offer wisdom in a way that we can receive it… myths are living entities.

Why were many battles fought because of the maidens and why was the wisdom they embodied so essential to the living land?

Are the battles still being fought on the inner and outer planes?

Where are the Maidens of the Well now and how do we call them back?

Are we the Maidens, open hearted, magical women captured by a tyrannical King-both inner and outer-who desires control of the restorative power of the feminine?

This myth is calling to us… the voices in the wells are returning.

Water is life, without water there is no life.

In alchemy Water is connected to “Solutio” or dissolution, it is the womb through which rebirth takes place… it is rejuvenation, immersion in the creative energy flow, and as its word root implies, the solution of problems.

Solutio is a descent into the unconscious, the maternal womb from which the ego is born.

Water causes one form to disappear and another one to emerge, it expresses and embodies the feminine condition of renewal.

In our current paradigm water is treated poorly, toxically, without respect, bottled in plastic, calcified; our sacred wells destroyed and dried up, our rivers and seas a dumping ground for industrial waste.

No renewal can come from this profound disrespect of the womb of the Mother and divine creativity of the feminine principle.

The Venus Pluto conjunction and Venus retrograde cycle can help to facilitate a reset in terms of how we are relating to the feminine principles of life.

Dissolving outmoded structures, changing our relationship with water, and trusting in our individual and collective re- birthing process is the potential of this time.

Begin with a simple water ceremony.
